WHAT TO BRING
Remember that what you pack you will carry,
do not pack more than is needed!
Plan on wearing comfortable travel
clothes on Sunday, that can also be
used for hiking; short pants and short sleeve shirt would be good since
the long pants are being packed.
The following list does not include the clothes you wear on Sunday.
- backpack, preferably with waist strap
- bed sheet (the AMC supplies cot, 3 wool blankets and, pillow)
- flashlight, with fresh batteries, for trips to the bathroom
- toiletries: soap, washcloth, toothbrush and toothpaste
- food and snacks to sustain you between breakfast and dinner for 2 days
(example: granola bars, trail mix, pepperoni sticks, cheese that doesn't
need refrigeration)
- 2 water bottles - approx 32 oz each (total 64 oz)
- moleskin, for foot blisters
- hiking shoes, sturdy and broken in
- sneakers, backup footwear (we may decide to leave these in the car)
- socks, 3 pair
- underwear, 3 pair
- long pants & long sleeve shirt
- long pants & short sleeve shirt to sleep in
(also can be used as backup clothes for the day)
- sweatshirt
- medium weight jacket
- rain poncho
- winter hat & gloves (or you can use socks for gloves)
- trash bag, to keep clothes dry if it rains
- compass
- whistle
- wristwatch
- playing cards (optional)
- book (optional)

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AT AMC HUTS - The following is extracted from "AMC Huts
and Lodges" ...

When you arrive at the hut, you should check in with the hut crew to determine
bunk assignments and to review special needs, hut logistics, dietary concerns,
and other details.
We strive to keep our facilities clean and comfortable. Each guest is provided
with a bunk, mattress, pillow, and three wool blankets.
Washrooms and changing rooms are separated by gender, while the actual
bunkrooms are co-ed. The huts have toilets and cold running water, but there
are no showers or outlets for electrical appliances. Our electrical needs -
refrigeration, two- way radios, and lighting are provided by solar, wind, and
water power. Some huts are illuminated by propane lamps. Please keep in mind
that there are no lights in the bunkrooms or bunkhouses and that open flames
are not allowed in the huts.
Dinner is served each evening promptly at 6 p.m. and breakfast is at 7 a.m.
Our meal service is family style, and there is always plenty of food for
everybody. The huts do not provide a routine lunch service, though we do sell
assorted high- energy snacks.
Food waste is composted, and the hut crew packs out all recyclables and trash
that cannot be composted. Please assist us by packing out your personal trash.
